Insurance industry experts add insight on key issues regarding Florida insurance and reinsurance at Competitive Enterprise Institute event

 

New Orleans, LA/ Fort Lauderdale, FL - Two Colodny, Fass, Talenfeld, Karlinsky & Abate attorneys recently served as panel moderators at "Out of the Storm '09: Making Reform Work," presented by the Competitive Enterprise Institute, held September 30th through October 2nd in New Orleans, LA. Shareholder Fred Karlinsky and recently-named Partner Katie Scott Webb both participated in the conference. 

Karlinsky moderated a panel on reinsurance entitled "The Virtues and Limits of Reinsurance." Webb also moderated a panel on insurance: "Lessons Learned in Florida." Other speakers included Scott Richardson, Director of the South Carolina Department of Insurance; Michael Chaney, Commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Insurance; Wayne Goodwin, Commissioner of Insurance and State Fire Marshall for North Carolina; and James J. Donelon, Louisiana Commissioner of Insurance.

The Competitive Enterprise Institute organized the conference to address the multitude of issues surrounding insurance reform. The conference focused on the successes and challenges that hurricane-prone states have faced in their ambitious property insurance reform efforts.

Karlinsky focuses his practice on insurance regulatory, legislative and transactional matters and governmental affairs. He also serves as Florida counsel to the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America and general counsel and chief lobbyist for the Florida Property and Casualty Association, an association comprised of Florida domestic property and automobile insurance companies.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Miami and his Juris Doctorate from Florida State University College of Law.

Webb is a member of the Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals and the Florida Association of Professional Lobbyists. She is also a frequent participant at National Association of Insurance Commissioners and National Conference of Insurance Legislators meetings.

Webb received her Bachelor of Science in political science in 2000 from Florida State University, and her Juris Doctorate from the Florida State University College of Law in 2003.
